Visit Costa Rica

Located in Central America, Costa Rica is uniquely situated between two oceans and two continents. "Costa Rica" means "rich coast." Costa Rica's richness of nature and wildlife is what draws most tourists.

Costa Rica

Costa Rica has been ranked as one of the most visited international destinations. 80% of all visitors come to Costa Rica for eco-tourism related activities. Although the country is modest in size, Costa Rica is one of the most biodiverse countries in the world.

The country is home to five percent of the world's existing species, including: 10,000 plants and trees; 850 indigenous and migrant birds; 205 mammals; 35,000 insects; 160 amphibians; 220 reptiles; and 1,013 fresh and saltwater fish. Costa Rica is dedicated to preserving its natural beauty and biological abundance. The country has set aside 25% of the country's land for protective parks and reserves to safeguard against deforestation and logging.

The Province of Guanacaste is located in the northwest corner of Costa Rica. The Gulf of Papagayo, or Golfo del Papagayo is a large body of water, which forms Guanacaste's western border along with the Pacific Ocean. The surrounding area is referred to as "Papagayo."

The Papagayo region begins within a 30-minute drive from the Liberia International Airport. The airport is just outside the city of Liberia. The airport was recently remodeled and continues to expand. The airport's contemporary design and facilities rivals and even surpasses many United States airports.

Driving from the airport toward Papagayo, the land goes from that of a small developing city to picturesque landscapes. The entire Papagayo area is filled with expansive vistas of tropical greenery, cattle ranches, and unspoiled beaches. The warm waters of the gulf are inviting and are home to some of the best fishing in the world.
